DIGISCRIPT BRINGS THE E-CITY MANILA TO LIFE IN ASIA’S GEM 2010

Last March 25 – 26, 2010 saw the opening of the 5th Asia’s Gaming & Entertainment plus Leisure EXPO 2010, which was held at the SMX Convention Center inside the Mall of Asia complex in Pasay City, Philippines. DigiScript Philippines Inc. was privileged to be part of this special event as it involved world’s top industry specialists seeking trends and advances that can spur market growth thru gaming and entertainment.


In participation with the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), DigiScript Philippines Inc. was fortunate enough to work with PAGCOR in creating a grand event booth by producing a 12-minute long 3D animation of PAGCOR’s Entertainment City Project. The E-City Manila, which was also dubbed as the “Bagong Nayong Pilipino Entertainment City Manila,” is described as an entertainment complex and integrated resort with a world-class theme park, casinos, hotels, residential villages, shopping malls, restaurants, sports arena, museum, and a sky-high tower.

The dream of Mr. Efraim Genuino, PAGCOR chairman and Chief Executive Officer, to build the PAGCOR E-City has been a work in progress for the past five years but is now slowly becoming a reality. DigiScript Philippines Inc. created a 3D animation of the entire E-City, which was projected on a large 300‑square foot dome during the EXPO. DigiScript Philippines Inc. also worked with other industry specialists to create a holographic projection of the chairman, welcoming the participants to the future of the Philippines. Many participants and visitors clearly visualized Mr. Genuino’s dream and were amazed by the vision of this project.

CLIMATE CHANGE COMMISSION LAUNCHES INTERNATIONAL DESIGN CONTEST TO ‘CLIMATE PROOF’ RP COMMUNITIES

Secretary Heherson Alvarez, Vice Chair of the Climate Change Commission (CCC), has launched the “Design Against the Elements (DAtE) competition in rites held last March 5, 2010 at the Malacañang Palace.

Design Against the Elements is a global architectural design competition meant to find a solution to the problems presented by climate change. Spurred by the devastation wreaked in the Philippines by tropical storm Ondoy (Ketsana) and driven by a powerhouse multidisciplinary group of organizations from the private, institutional, and government sectors, the project aims to draw together the most innovative minds in the fields of architecture, design, and urban planning to develop sustainable and disaster‑resistant housing for communities in tropical urban settings.

My Shelter Foundation Executive Director, Illac Angelo Diaz, the lead organizer of the event, said the top three winning designs will receive $10,000, $5,000, and $3,000 respectively.

MIAA MODERNIZATION PROGRAM BOOSTED with ACQUISITION of LEICA GEOSYSTEMS HIGH DEFINITION 3D LASER SCANNER

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) modernization program got a big technological boost when it took delivery last February of the Scan Station 2 laser scanner from Leica Geosystems, the acknowledged global leader in High Definition Surveying (HDS).  Dubbed as “the future of surveying,” the laser scanner will provide MIAA a highly accurate, fast and versatile survey tool needed to support its mission critical tasks as the premier gateway into and out of the Philippines.


“The present passenger traffic handled by MIAA now exceeds 25 million passengers per year, and we are looking at an annual increase in the order of 5-10%. The LEICA GEOSYSTEMS HDS scanner will greatly enhance MIAA’s  capabilities to in the field of facilities planning and maintenance, engineering and construction verification, accident investigation and forensics, as well airport security,” said MIAA General Manager Alfonso Cusi.   He noted that the Leica Geosystems HDS scanners are now deployed in major international airports like Heathrow, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, New York, Singapore Changi, and Hong Kong Cheok Lap.


Engineer Carlos Lozada, the Assistant General Manager for Engineering, spoke of MIAA’s need or tools that would allow for accurate tracking of construction progress and compliance against plans or designs, as well as monitoring and estimation of construction progress of works such as runways, aprons, terminals and facilities.


“The high definition scanner, along with the training that Leica Geosystems will provide, will also give MIAA engineering the capability to model planned improvements and retrofitting/changes, simulating the look and impact of such plans, and thus eliminating costly reworks and delays,” Lozada said.
